Hello, I am Brandon.
I have expertise in healthcare finance,
business intelligence systems,
and operations.
Imagine what we could accomplish together.
I am available for hire!
If you want help bringing a technical product to the next level and scale it up or out, I can help. I know how to build internal and external
cloud infrastructure as well as developing analytics projects. I have over 10 years experience. Additionally, I have recruited computer science and finance teams.
I have cross trained them to be competent in both business and technology environments.
I bring to your company a rare combination of technical acumen in information technology as well as accounting and finance. I enjoy creating tools,
processes, and information products that help people perform their jobs better. My innovative processes have resulted in improvement in the
company's bottom line, efficiency improvement in the company's products, and ultimately customer satisfaction.
It can be said that financial modeling and imagination can bring forth new ideas. Analytics driven by solid data transform new ideas into new pathways to business success.
The SaaS product helped nurses improve patient care outcomes by increasing the visibility of patients who are failing or likely to fail standard care quality metrics.
When the nurses and management aligned to improve certain care quality measures, the business reaped reward payments from the government, thus increasing profitability.
My Role
I worked with the C-suite and management peers to design and write a product project plan. My job was then to manage and execute the project plan.
The plan described who would use the product, what we would measure, how it would be presented, and the behavior and outcomes we wanted to encourage.
Completing the definition and planning stage of our project made clear who would be responsible for each aspect of driving project completion.
Technology and My Team
Simplifying the story quite a bit, I worked with Robert and Clay exploring the broader vision of what Stonegate's infrastructure needed and
what we could do to scale all of the company's applications along side this high visibilty patient quality improvement project. We decided on
a 5 node Nutanix cluster hosted at DataBank, a co-located data center in north Dallas. Nutanix is linux based, similar to our
existing data warehouse, business intelligence and data ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) environment. Nutanix was designed to accomodate the distributed,
microservice architecture I planned for the project.
Concretely, we used Docker to containerize our project components and tools including:
MariaDB (MySQL)- staging data
Vertica- analytic queries
Pentaho Data Integration (Kettle)visual ETL tool
Pentaho Server- dashboards, reports, "the application"
Supported 850% sales boom in 2020.
Business Impact
Deploying business intelligence and data automation tools, hiring the right staff and consulting groups allowed Vitaltech to raise capital, import and track inventory, and support invoicing, revenue recognition, cash position and growth of the business. In 2020, VitalTech benefited from the Covid-19 healthcare response and sales boomed 850% from 2019.
My Role
As a first time CFO, with a long history of healthcare operations and finance, my job was to build the accounting group, policies and controls and financial reporting to support business function and growth. In February 2020, I worked with our CEO and a private equity group to acquire Breezie, a United Kingdom based social media company for seniors, as part of an investment round in Vitaltech. This boosted our subscribers and expanded our market from the US to the UK, Canada, Australia. We raised debt for hardware imports and continuing operations. I found and used factoring companies to pull cash forward to increase liquidity. I supported management in strategic investment from Tech Mahinda at the end of 2020 expanding our market. I lead an external accounting firm through cleaning up and consolidating Vitaltech’s US and foreign company financials in preparation for a GAAP audit. I also found a team to help Vitaltech configure and deploy Salesforce and Oracle Netsuite.
Technology and My Team
Startups provide opportunities and compel people to perform a breadth of tasks that are non-executive in nature. Leveraging my technical background, I built PowerBI dashboards and ETL for real-time financial insights including AR, AP, cash position, revenue, expenses, and subscriber descriptive statistics. I made Neo4j graphs for analyzing hospital systems, communities and patients. I used ETL to create interfaces between the Vitalcare platform and a large health system. These activities improved customer retention, and helped solidify the value proposition. I introduced Docker containers to the developers working on the Vitalcare platform, which made it quicker, easier, and less error prone to improve, build, and deploy the platform and to decouple various portions of the platform in a secure way.
